WhatsApp Guest Calling: How to Create Call Links—Allowing Guests Without Accounts to Join
With WhatsApp’s new "Guest Calling" feature, joining voice and video calls has become easier—no account or app download required. Learn how to create these call links and discover more about this feature.
In today’s world, the use of video and voice calling for online communication has grown significantly. Whether for office meetings, online classes, or catching up with family and friends, people rely on various apps to stay connected. However, a common challenge arises when the person you wish to call does not have the specific app installed on their device.
In such cases, the other person typically has to either download a new app or switch to a different platform to communicate. To address this, WhatsApp has introduced its new "Guest Calling" feature. It now allows individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account to join WhatsApp calls. Here is everything you need to know about this new feature.
WhatsApp’s Guest Calling Feature
Meta’s WhatsApp announced the "Guest Calling" feature on October 14, 2026. Through this, a WhatsApp user can generate a call link and send it to someone who does not use the platform. A key advantage of this feature is that guests do not need to create a WhatsApp account or download the app; they can simply open the link via a web browser on their computer to request to join the call. According to WhatsApp, this feature supports both voice and video calls, with a capacity for up to 32 participants simultaneously. The service is free, has no set time limit, and all calls remain end-to-end encrypted.
How to Create a WhatsApp Guest Call Link
If you wish to add a friend, relative, or coworker to a WhatsApp call who does not have a WhatsApp account, you can do so by following a few simple steps. First, open WhatsApp on your phone and go to the 'Calls' tab. Tap the '+' icon, then select the 'Create Call Link' option. You can generate a link for either a voice or video call, depending on your needs. Once created, copy the link and send it to the person you want to include in the call. This allows you to invite someone to a call without needing to save their phone number. Please note that you must have a WhatsApp account to create a call link.
How People Without an Account Can Join the Call
The person who receives the call link must open it in a web browser on their computer. They will then need to enter their name and submit a request to join the call. After sending the request, they will not be able to join the conversation immediately; instead, they will enter a 'waiting room.' They can only join the call once the host—the person who created the link—grants them permission. Currently, guests can only join calls using a computer browser; this feature is not available via mobile browsers.
Features Available to Guests
WhatsApp offers more to guest users than just the ability to listen and speak. They have access to several useful features during a call—for instance, guests can share their computer screen with others, which is particularly helpful for online meetings or educational sessions. They can also react to the conversation using emojis like a 'thumbs up' or a 'heart.' Additionally, in group calls, there is an 'raise hand' option to signal that they would like to speak. Furthermore, there is no set time limit for these conversations.
WhatsApp’s Privacy and Security Measures
To ensure safety and privacy, certain limitations have been implemented for guest calling. Guests cannot view the phone numbers of other participants. Furthermore, they cannot send messages during a call, nor can they add other individuals to the call themselves. Most importantly, the host retains control over who is included in the call; they can accept or reject any guest's request to join and, if necessary, remove a guest from an ongoing call.
Integration with Google and Outlook Calendars in the Works
Alongside guest calling, WhatsApp has announced plans to introduce another feature: calendar integration with Google Calendar and Outlook, scheduled for rollout by the end of 2026. This will allow users to schedule WhatsApp calls directly from their calendars and include call links in meeting invitations. To use this, users will need to install a WhatsApp plugin and connect their accounts.
