WhatsApp group chats are set to change! You’re not just getting one or two, but four new features..
WhatsApp has introduced four new features to make group chats easier and better. These features will help new members understand ongoing discussions, while also allowing existing users to easily access important messages and updates.
The new update includes options to share message history, pin messages permanently, filter messages by mentions, and share status updates specifically within a group. According to the company, these features are designed to help manage group conversations more effectively and integrate new members into existing discussions.
1- Permanent Pinning of Messages on WhatsApp:
Currently, WhatsApp allows users to pin up to four messages in a group chat for a duration of 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. The company has now added an option to pin messages permanently.
This allows important group content—such as rules, essential information, or event details—to remain at the top indefinitely, eliminating the need for users to repeatedly re-pin messages.
2- Sharing Past Chat History with New Members:
The second new feature is designed for those who join a group at a later stage. Group admins and managers can now share recent message history with new members after they join.
This can be done by tapping on the name of the newly added member within the group. The company states that all shared messages will remain protected by end-to-end encryption.
Previously, WhatsApp offered admins the option to share message history when adding a new member; however, if an admin forgot to do so at that time, it was not easy to share it later. With this new feature, it is now possible to share past conversations with members who may have missed them.
3- Easily find messages using 'Mentions':
The third feature allows users to filter messages in WhatsApp group chats based on 'mentions'. When this filter is applied, the chat window will highlight messages in which a specific user has been tagged.
Finding mentions in large, active group chats—where messages pour in constantly—will now be much easier. This also reduces the likelihood of missing important conversations.
4- Share specific status updates within WhatsApp groups:
The fourth feature is 'Group Status'. It enables users to share their status updates exclusively with members of a specific WhatsApp group. Instead of sharing every status with all your contacts, you can now limit it to a chosen group.
This feature functions just like the standard WhatsApp status; any photos or videos shared will automatically disappear after 24 hours. Other group members can react to these status updates and also share their own.
With the introduction of these four features, navigating past conversations in WhatsApp groups, managing important messages, and sharing updates with specific groups of people will become significantly easier.
