WhatsApp Contacts Hub: WhatsApp is continuously working on introducing a host of innovative features. The company is now preparing to roll out a feature that will allow users to see who is currently online—and who was recently active—without having to open anyone's chat window. Additionally, WhatsApp is testing a new storage management feature designed to make it easier to free up space on your phone. It is important to note that WhatsApp's privacy protocols will remain in effect here as well: you will only be able to view another person's online status if you have enabled your own online status visibility for others.

How Will the New Contacts Feature Work?
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a new "Contacts Hub" has been spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for iPhone. Before this, in March, a beta update (version 2.26.13.1.3) was released for Android users, offering the ability to view active contacts without opening a chat. This new feature is set to completely transform the app's interface.

According to reports, WhatsApp will introduce a new "Contacts" section within the app's settings, positioned directly beneath the user's profile picture. This section will display a comprehensive list of individuals who have recently come online. Contacts who are currently "live online" at that moment will appear at the very top of the list, distinguished by a green dot placed on their profile picture. Immediately below the live online users, WhatsApp will display contacts who were active a short while ago. This list will be arranged in chronological order, making it easy to identify who was active and when.

Favorites Management and Manual Searching Will Also Become Easier
Users can look forward to accessing several additional advanced controls within this new Contacts Hub. In this new section, WhatsApp will also prominently display your top four selected "favorite" contacts at the very top of the list. Users will be able to easily manage and update their list of favorites directly from this interface.

Sorting and Search Bar: Users will have the option to sort their contact list directly by name (in alphabetical order) rather than solely by online status. Additionally, users will find a dedicated search bar to locate specific contacts.
QR Codes and Manual Adding: Through this hub, users will be able to directly add new WhatsApp contacts—either by manually typing in a phone number or by scanning the other person's QR code.

Deleting Status Media Without Deleting Chats Will Become Easier
Alongside its online tracker, WhatsApp is working on another excellent feature designed to address the issue of full phone storage. This feature was spotted in WhatsApp Beta version 2.26.20.6 for Android. Often, when you view someone's status updates, your phone's memory tends to fill up.

Following the new update, a separate filter for "Status Updates" will be added to the app's "Manage Storage" section. This will allow users to identify exactly which status update files are occupying the most space on their phone. Users will be able to free up storage space by removing these large status media files directly from within the app with just a single click—without having to delete any essential media files shared within their main chat conversations.
