WhatsApp Begins Testing This Special Feature for iPhone Users

WhatsApp has started testing the 'Green Dot Online Indicator' feature for iPhone users. Let’s find out what this feature is and how it works...

WhatsApp has initiated testing of the 'Green Dot Online Indicator' feature for iPhone users; currently, this feature is available only to users on WhatsApp iOS Beta version 26.26.10.72 via Apple TestFlight. With this feature, if a user is active on WhatsApp, a small green dot will appear at the bottom right of their profile photo. Testing for this feature began on Android Beta first and has now been extended to iPhone beta users.

What are the benefits of this feature?

Previously, to check a user's status, one had to open the chat and look for the 'Online' status displayed below their name. However, with the new update, opening a user's 'Contact Info' screen will reveal a green dot on their profile photo; this dot will automatically disappear once they go offline. Currently, this feature is limited to the 'Contact Info' screen, meaning the green dot will not appear in the chat list, the chats tab, or the chat window.

Will the Green Dot affect privacy?

WhatsApp has stated that this feature will not alter your privacy settings. The green dot will only be visible to people with whom you have shared your 'Last Seen' and 'Online' status information. If you have hidden your online status from someone, they will not see this green dot either.
