WhatsApp: Afraid to put WhatsApp in your children's hands? This new feature will put an end to all your worries...
WhatsApp recently introduced a new feature called 'Parent-Managed Accounts' to make the platform safer for children. This feature is designed specifically for users under the age of 13 and allows parents to monitor how their children use the messaging app. With this update, children can stay connected with their friends and family, while parents maintain control over essential settings.
**Learn About Parent-Managed Accounts**
Parent-Managed Accounts are specialized accounts that allow children to use WhatsApp subject to certain restrictions. Children can still send messages and make calls, but certain features are disabled to ensure a safer user experience.
For instance, features such as Channels, Status updates, and AI tools will not be available on these accounts. The 'Disappearing Messages' feature is also disabled for chats conducted between users. These restrictions help ensure that children primarily use the app for communication rather than for exploring other social features.
**How Does This Feature Work?**
Setting up a Parent-Managed Account requires access to both the child's and the parent's phones. First, the parent installs WhatsApp on the child's device and selects the option to 'Create a Parent-Managed Account.'
During the setup process, the child's phone number is verified, and the parent confirms the child's age. Subsequently, the parents' WhatsApp account is linked to the child's account using a QR code. Following this, the parent creates a six-digit PIN, which is used to manage the child's privacy settings.
This PIN ensures that the child cannot alter critical settings without their parent's permission. Safety Controls for Parents
This feature also grants parents greater control over their child's contacts and conversations. Parents can determine who is allowed to send messages to their child, approve invitations to join groups, and review message requests received from unknown users.
Parents are also notified whenever their child adds a new contact, blocks a contact, or joins a group chat. This enables parents to keep track of their child's activities on the platform.
Despite these controls, WhatsApp states that 'end-to-end encryption' will remain active for all chats; this means that messages will remain completely private, and no third party—not even the company itself—will be able to read them.
