The new 'Aadhaar' mobile app launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has garnered over 31 million (3.1 crore) downloads within just five months. According to an official statement released on Monday, approximately 4 million users have linked their mobile numbers through the app, while around 850,000 people have utilized it to update their addresses.

**Growing Popularity Among Users**

The Authority stated that the app, launched five months ago, is gaining rapid acceptance across the country, and its increasing usage reflects the growing trust people place in it. This new Aadhaar app offers various services, including the ability to update mobile numbers and addresses via smartphones. It also features a QR code facility for digitally sharing contact details, thereby eliminating the need to carry physical visiting cards.

**More Advanced and Secure Than Before**

UIDAI's new Aadhaar app is more secure and technologically advanced than its predecessor. Notably, while the earlier 'mAadhaar' app revealed a user's full details during verification, the new app shares only the necessary information. Additionally, the new UIDAI app delivers a fast, secure, and smart digital experience. It also incorporates features such as secure QR code-based Aadhaar sharing and advanced e-KYC capabilities.

**A Range of Features**

According to the statement, the app includes features such as one-click biometric locking/unlocking, face authentication for proof of presence, authentication history, and a QR-based editable contact card. Users can also download their e-Aadhaar and book online appointments at Aadhaar Seva Kendras. The new app allows for verification during hotel check-ins by scanning the hotel's QR code, removing the need to present a physical copy of the Aadhaar card. The Authority noted that the app is useful for various scenarios, including hospital admissions, visitor management, event entry, and identity verification for gig workers and service partners.
