A new initiative has been launched in Delhi to provide clean and affordable drinking water to the general public. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated a 'Water ATM' in the Shalimar Bagh area on the occasion of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Jayanti. This initiative brings particular relief to those who have, until now, faced difficulties in accessing clean water. In this context, let us explore exactly what Water ATMs are, how they function, and who stands to benefit directly from them.

**What is a Water ATM, and How Does It Work?**
A Water ATM is a modern machine from which people can easily procure pure drinking water. Unlike a standard water tank, this system utilizes 5-stage RO (Reverse Osmosis) technology. This technology renders dirty, saline, or impure water completely clean and potable. The system is capable of filtering water with TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) levels of up to 3000, making the water safe and pleasant-tasting.

**Which Areas Will Benefit the Most?**
This facility has been introduced in Wards 55, 56, and 57 of Shalimar Bagh. Water ATMs have been installed at a total of seven locations, including GP Block and Beriwala Bagh Block. The primary beneficiaries of this scheme will be families residing in the *Seva Bastis* (informal settlements) of Pitampura and Shalimar Bagh. They will no longer need to travel long distances or purchase expensive water to meet their clean water requirements.

**24-Hour Availability and Strict Monitoring**
A key feature of these Water ATMs is that they will remain operational 24 hours a day. Furthermore, the machines' functionality and water quality will be under constant digital surveillance to ensure that the public always has access to clean water. Each machine is capable of dispensing approximately 2,000 liters of water per hour.

**Each Individual to Receive a Fixed Quantity of Water**
Under this scheme, every individual will be entitled to receive up to approximately 20 liters of drinking water per day. To facilitate this, special 'Water ATM Cards' will be issued, enabling people to conveniently access their water supply. An Initiative to Advance Ambedkar's Vision
The Chief Minister stated that this initiative is an endeavor to advance Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's vision—one in which every citizen is entitled to receive basic amenities. The government's objective is to ensure that essential facilities reach every section of society and that all individuals are able to live their lives with dignity.
