Warning: If you use this app for office meetings, be careful; the government has issued a 'high risk' warning..
The most widely used platform for video meetings in India, Zoom, is facing a serious threat. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a fresh warning, stating that a major security vulnerability has been discovered in Zoom.
How big is the threat?
CERT-In has categorized this threat as "high severity," meaning it's not a minor bug. According to the agency, hackers can exploit this vulnerability to bypass your computer's security. They can not only gain control of your system but also steal your sensitive and private information.
Which users are at risk?
This threat specifically targets users of Zoom Rooms on Windows and macOS (Apple laptops). CERT-In has issued an alert for all Zoom versions before 6.6.0 for Windows users. The vulnerability also affects all Zoom versions before 6.6.0 on macOS.
What to do immediately to stay safe
The good news is that a solution is available. All you need to do is open the Zoom app on your desktop or Mac and update it immediately. Zoom has released a new security patch to fix these vulnerabilities.
Apple and Google also targeted
It's not just Zoom; in the past few weeks, Apple and Google (Chrome and Edge browsers) have also faced similar major security vulnerabilities. Hackers are constantly targeting devices, so keeping all your apps and software updated is the best way to stay safe.
