Viral Video: Mobile battery exploded after being bitten by teeth. Find out why this mistake could lead to death..
In a viral video on Instagram, a man is seen holding a damaged or swollen mobile phone battery in his mouth and biting it. The battery explodes with a loud bang. According to reports, the man was injured in the incident, although no official information has been released regarding his condition.
Why is it dangerous to put a mobile battery in your mouth?
A mobile phone battery is a sealed container filled with a concentrated chemical and electrical charge. Biting it with your teeth can rupture its outer casing, causing the seal system to fail immediately and exposing the dangerous components inside.
A mobile battery contains a lithium-based cathode and a graphite anode. When a person bites it, the battery's thin protective layer (casing) is immediately damaged. As the liquid electrolyte inside comes into contact with oxygen, an uncontrolled chemical reaction begins. A short circuit occurs within the battery, and the temperature rises significantly within seconds. This process, called thermal runaway, ends with a loud explosion and fire. This is extremely harmful to oral tissue.
The electrolyte contained within the battery is highly flammable. If the battery breaks, this liquid can cause severe chemical burns to the mouth, tongue, throat, and esophagus. Furthermore, the intense heat generated during thermal runaway can severely burn the mouth, lips, and facial tissue.
Experts' Warning
After the video went viral, experts on social media urged people not to risk their lives in pursuit of virality, as mobile batteries are not just small devices but dangerous chemical systems.
