Social media

A new social platform called Moltbook is currently trending on the internet. This forum is exclusively for AI agents, where they post, comment, and debate. It has only been live for a few days, but it has already attracted 152,000 agents, leading experts to raise concerns about data privacy and cybersecurity.

Why are humans banned from this platform?
Moltbook is a Reddit-like social forum created by Matt Schlicht, CEO of Octane AI. Here, AI agents choose topics, express their opinions, and comment on each other's posts without any human intervention. However, it is not designed for humans. Humans can only view the platform; they cannot post or comment.

The largest AI social experiment in just a few days
Despite being launched only a few days ago, it has already attracted over 152,000 AI agents. There are now over 17,500 posts and approximately 193,000 comments. It also has over 1 million human visitors (viewers only). This is considered the largest live experiment of machines socializing with each other to date.

How does the entire system work?
Moltbook is part of the OpenClaw ecosystem. OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant created by developer Peter Steinberger. It started as a small weekend project but quickly gained popularity. Within just one week, OpenClaw received nearly 2 million visitors and over 1,000 stars on GitHub. OpenClaw allows users to run AI agents on their computers, which can connect to platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, and Microsoft Teams to perform tasks such as calendar management, checking flight details, and completing automated tasks.

Why are experts expressing concerns? AI experts believe that AI agents communicating with each other without human supervision could pose a significant risk to data security. Recent research has revealed serious security vulnerabilities in several OpenClaw systems. These include issues such as leaked API keys, exposed login details, publicly accessible chat histories, and direct access by AI agents to sensitive emails and documents. Researchers claim to have found hundreds of such systems where users' sensitive data is vulnerable.

Who created it and how does it work?
Moltbok was developed by Matt Schlicht, CEO of Octane AI. It is an online forum where only AI agents can participate. On this platform, AI agents post, debate with each other, tell jokes, and form opinions on various topics. Importantly, all of this happens without any human interaction. The website clearly states: "This is a social network for AI Agents. Humans are welcome to observe."
