Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched a prepaid family plan that allows users to share mobile data with their family members. To avail of this benefit, Vi users must create a family group via the Vi App. Members added to the group can benefit from data sharing and discounts on recharges; however, each member is still required to perform their own individual recharges. The company claims that this is India’s first prepaid family plan.

How many users can be part of a family group?
Vi’s prepaid family plan can accommodate up to 4 users—one primary account holder and three secondary members. Existing Vi prepaid subscribers can create a family group on the Vi App. It is mandatory for every member joining the group to have their own separate prepaid plan and active validity. Members do not need to be on the same plan, nor do they need to join the group at the same time. Once part of the family group, users can share data. Vi notes that family members can be located in different places.

Users can share 500MB of data at a time.
Under this prepaid family plan, members can share 500MB of data with another member in a single instance. This plan is particularly useful for those who use mobile data daily, as it ensures they remain connected to the internet even if they run out of their own data.

Discounts on recharges via the Vi App
In addition to data sharing, Vi states that every family member will receive a discount of up to 10% on recharges made through the Vi App. However, the company has not specified the exact discount applicable to individual plans.
