VANKI: Bengaluru police launches multilingual AI in 112 emergency system..
Bengaluru is renowned globally for its diversity and its status as a major IT hub. The city is home to a large population of students, professionals, and tourists from across the country and around the world. Frequently, during criminal incidents or emergency situations, victims faced delays in receiving timely assistance when calling the police due to their inability to speak the local language. To address this significant challenge at its root, Karnataka's Home Minister, G. Parameshwara, has launched the country's first Multilingual Voice AI (VANKI) system under the 'Namma 112' response framework. Its primary objective is to make emergency communication entirely seamless and rapid.
**Real-Time Translation and Support for Over 10 Languages**
The most significant feature of this new AI technology is that callers can unhesitatingly articulate their concerns in their native language. This smart AI system instantly listens to the call in real-time, accurately interprets it, and relays the complete information to the police call handler.
According to the Police Department, the technology currently supports a total of over 10 languages, including Indian languages such as Bengali, Gujarati, Odia, and Manipuri, as well as foreign languages like Spanish, French, and Arabic. In subsequent phases, several additional languages will also be incorporated into the system.
**A Perfect Fusion of Technology and Security**
Officials believe that the implementation of this system will significantly reduce police response times, ensuring that appropriate assistance reaches the scene of an incident much faster. This revolutionary technology was developed through the specialized collaboration of tech companies named 'Monday Ventures' and 'Aeos'. This initiative by the Bengaluru Police not only enhances citizen safety through smart technology but also demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence can prove to be a game-changer in improving policing operations.
