Using Siri AI could prove costly for iPhone users! They might have to pay for advanced features..
A glimpse of an upgraded version of Siri was revealed during WWDC 2026, alongside the launch of iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. During the event, the new name for Siri—"Siri AI"—was also announced. Built on Apple Intelligence, this next-generation version of Apple's virtual assistant is poised to compete with leading AI assistants like ChatGPT. Now, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has hinted that accessing all of Siri's features might require a paid subscription.
A subscription for Siri AI?
In a Q&A session within his weekly newsletter, Mark Gurman suggested that users might have to pay to access Siri AI's advanced features. Gurman notes that Apple is still in the early stages of convincing customers that the company's AI technology is worth using. However, he believes the situation will improve significantly over the next 12 months.
AI-powered features—such as those driving Siri—require server infrastructure and entail high costs. I can foresee basic Siri features remaining free and unlimited, while more conversational, knowledge-rich, and generative AI capabilities (akin to ChatGPT) might come with a fee. Apple has introduced the new Siri and Visual Intelligence capabilities alongside iOS 27, macOS 27, iPadOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. These new operating systems will be available to the general public later this year.
The Siri AI assistant can draw data from emails, messages, photos, and other apps, and function across supported applications. A dedicated Siri app allows users to start new conversations or continue existing ones from a single interface.
