UPI Payment Method Transformed: No Need to Enter a PIN Anymore—So How Will Payments Go Through? Find Out Here
UPI Payment: The requirement to enter a PIN number for making UPI payments of up to ₹5,000 has now been eliminated. You can now complete these payments in a snap using fingerprint or Face ID verification.
UPI Payment: If you use UPI for online payments, there is a major update in store for you. The method for making UPI payments has undergone a complete transformation, and all users will now be able to utilize biometric features instead of entering a PIN. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has rolled out this feature for iPhone users, in addition to Android users. The key benefit of this update is that users will no longer need to enter a PIN when making payments of up to ₹5,000; instead, they can authorize payments using their fingerprint or Face ID.
Feature Now Available for All Users
Until now, the option to make payments via biometric authentication was available exclusively to Android users on a limited number of apps, including Amazon Pay and PhonePe. This feature has now been rolled out to all users. Consequently, in addition to Android users, iPhone users can also now make payments using Face ID. To utilize this feature, it is essential that your payment app is up to date. Furthermore, this functionality applies only to payments of up to ₹5,000; for transactions exceeding this amount, a PIN will still be required, just as before.
How to Enable This Feature?
Activating the feature to make payments via biometric verification—rather than a PIN—is a very simple process. To do so, open any UPI payment app you use—such as PhonePe, Google Pay, or BHIM. Next, type "Biometric Payment" or "Pay with FaceID" into the search bar and initiate a search. Once the relevant option opens, select the specific bank account for which you wish to enable this feature. You will be prompted to enter your UPI PIN to complete the verification process. As soon as the verification is successfully completed, the biometric payment feature will become active.
What Are the Benefits of This Change?
With the introduction of this feature, UPI payments are set to become even faster and more seamless. Many people either forget their PINs or enter the wrong ones while making payments. Now, a new feature will eliminate this hassle as well. The need for a PIN has effectively been rendered obsolete. If your phone is equipped with a fingerprint sensor, you can make payments using your fingerprint; alternatively, if your phone supports Face ID, you can complete transactions simply by scanning your face.
