The number of smartphone users in the country has now exceeded 1.25 billion. Among them, tens of millions of people own and use two smartphones. On the other hand, UPI transactions are also growing rapidly, and today, the majority of digital transactions are conducted through UPI. However, a problem arises when you are unable to perform a UPI transaction using your secondary phone. UPI has now introduced a solution to address this issue. To this end, a new feature called "UPI Circle" has been launched, which allows you to conduct transactions without needing to link the specific mobile number on that device directly to your bank account.

To make payments via UPI, it is typically mandatory for your mobile number to be linked to your bank account. Consequently, individuals who own two smartphones have historically had to carry with them the specific device containing the SIM card that is linked to their bank account. However, the "UPI Circle" feature has now resolved this dilemma. Under this feature, users can make payments from multiple devices using a single bank account. This feature proves particularly useful for those who own two mobile phones, as they can now initiate UPI payments from either device.

**How Does This Feature Work?**
Several apps that facilitate UPI services have already rolled out this feature. Google Pay, for instance, has introduced a similar facility under the name "Pocket Money." The UPI Circle feature is designed to allow a single bank account holder to access their account across multiple devices or to grant others—such as family members—the authority to make payments using their UPI account. Simply put, this feature enables payments across multiple devices using a single bank account without the need to obtain a duplicate SIM card. Furthermore, there is no requirement to open a separate bank account to utilize this service.

**Usable by Any Family Member**
UPI Circle is an excellent feature for households where there is a single earning member. The account holder can grant access to their UPI account to any member of their family. This facility can be extended to any family member, including one's spouse or children. Similarly, professionals who use separate smartphones for work and personal purposes will no longer need to carry both devices with them. They will now be able to make payments using their secondary smartphone—even without a SIM card or a dedicated account.

**How to Set Up a UPI Circle**
First, open the UPI app on your primary mobile device, navigate to 'Settings,' and select the 'UPI Circle' or 'Pocket Money' option.

Once the option opens, click on 'Invite Dependent' or 'Add Member.'
Next, enter the relevant contact number or UPI ID, or scan the QR code displayed on the secondary phone.

After entering all the required inputs, you will need to provide the details of the concerned individual's ID for verification purposes.

Subsequently, you will need to link the device using your UPI PIN.
Within the UPI Circle interface, you will find two control options: you can choose to manually approve every single transaction, or you can set a fixed monthly spending limit.
Under the UPI Circle framework, secondary users are permitted to make payments of up to ₹5,000 per single transaction, subject to a maximum monthly limit of ₹15,000.
