The Indian government's UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has launched a new mobile app to make your Aadhaar card more digital and secure. With this app, you no longer need to carry your physical Aadhaar card with you, as it will be stored safely on your phone.

With this new app, Aadhaar verification has become as easy as UPI payments. Uniquely, you can save Aadhaar profiles for up to five family members on a single phone. This app is available for both Android and iOS users.

Special Features of the New Aadhaar App

You will now always have your e-Aadhaar with you; there's no need for a hard copy.

If you want to share Aadhaar details with someone, simply scan your face; it's as secure as a PIN or OTP.

Login to the app is done through biometric authentication, ensuring the complete security of your data.

The app is available in several Indian languages, including Hindi and English.

You can view your Aadhaar even without an internet connection.

How is the new app different from the old mAadhaar app?

UIDAI's mAadhaar app was already available, which was limited to viewing details, downloading e-Aadhaar, or ordering a PVC card. The new app now allows users to securely store their Aadhaar information and share it by scanning a QR code. If you only need to download a PDF or order a PVC card, you'll still need to use mAadhaar. However, features like generating a virtual ID or updating Aadhaar will remain available only on the UIDAI portal or mAadhaar.

The new app's most significant feature is its privacy-first approach, allowing users to share only essential information through the Selective Disclosure feature.

What benefits will users gain?
Tasks like hotel check-in, SIM activation, or bank KYC will now be completed in minutes.

Managing all family Aadhaar accounts on a single phone will be easy.

Sharing details via QR or face scan will keep personal data secure.

Aadhaar's Journey: From Paper to Digital
The Aadhaar card was introduced in 2009. Today, more than 1.3 billion people in India have Aadhaar. Initially, it was available only as a paper card, then the mAadhaar app was introduced, and now the government has fully digitized it. This initiative by UIDAI, under the Digital India Mission, is considered a major step towards providing citizens with a more convenient and secure digital identity.
