If you're a Snapchat user, there's bad news for you. The company will now start charging users for storing old photos and videos.

One of Snapchat's favorite features will no longer be free. The company has announced that it will charge for the Memories feature, which stores old photos and videos. This feature has been available for free since its launch in 2016 and offers users the option to store their photos and videos. Users are unhappy with the company's announcement and are demanding a reversal of this decision.

When will you have to pay?

Under the new policy, the company will charge users if they exceed 5GB of storage. The company stated in a blog post that this policy will be gradually implemented for all users. A company spokesperson stated that the 100GB plan will cost US$1.99 (approximately ₹177) per month, while the 250GB plan will be part of the Snapchat+ subscription priced at $3.99 (approximately ₹355). Snapchat currently has over 900 million monthly active users, and the company says most of them have less than 5GB of Memories storage. These users will not be affected by the new decision.

What happens if you don't pay?

Users with more than 5GB of Memories will receive temporary storage for one year and the option to download their saved content. After one year, they will be required to purchase a storage plan. It's been almost a decade since Snapchat launched, and over one trillion Memories have been saved to date. Defending its decision, Snapchat said that it will be difficult for the users, but this money will be used to expand the scope of this feature.
