A path to compensation has opened for certain iPhone users who were kept waiting for the Apple Intelligence-enabled Smart Siri. Apple has initiated the claim process for a $250 million settlement regarding the delay in the Siri upgrade. Under the terms established in the US, eligible iPhone owners can initially claim a payment of $25 per device.
This matter stems from a class-action lawsuit alleging that Apple marketed the iPhone 16 as being ready for Apple Intelligence, even though the smarter Siri—showcased at WWDC 2024—was not available at the time. This upgrade has only just reached users this month alongside iOS 27.
Which iPhone models are eligible for the claim?
This settlement applies only to eligible purchases made in the US. It covers the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as the entire iPhone 16 series (including the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max, and iPhone 16e). The purchase must have been made between June 10, 2024, and March 29, 2025.
Claims can only be filed by the original purchaser of the phone. The device must have been acquired for personal or professional use, not for resale. This settlement does not apply to these models purchased in India; the case was filed and settled in the US.
What is required to file a claim?
Claims can be submitted via SmartphoneAISettlement.com. The form will require your name, address, phone number, and the iPhone's serial number. This information can be found in the 'About' section under 'General' in the device settings. If the serial number is unavailable, the Apple Account email and the phone number linked to the device can be used instead. A separate claim must be filed for each device, and only one payment will be issued per phone. Eligible users may also receive an email containing a Claim ID and PIN in the coming days, although applications can be submitted without them.
What is the deadline for filing a claim?
The deadline to submit a claim is December 21, 2026. A hearing for final approval of the matter is scheduled for February 24, 2027, at the Federal District Court in San Jose. Payments will commence only after this date, and further delays could occur in the event of an appeal. Payments can be made via PayPal, Venmo, direct deposit, or paper check.
