Stop Scam Calls on Android: Google is preparing to roll out a new "Verified Caller" feature for Android phones. This feature is specifically designed to detect spoofed calls—instances where scammers utilize the official numbers of banks or government agencies. This system will be integrated directly into Google Play Services, meaning it will function on nearly all Android smartphones and work in tandem with your banking apps to block fraudulent calls.

Why is this feature necessary?
Scammers across the globe, including in India, are employing a specific trick known as "number spoofing." This technique makes incoming calls appear to originate from legitimate sources—such as banks, government helplines, or corporate offices—when, in reality, they are fraudulent calls. This is precisely why people fall victim to these scams so easily.

How will this system work?
According to reports, an Android phone will cross-reference incoming calls against a dedicated database. Specifically, "DNO" (Do-Not-Originate) numbers will be checked. DNO numbers are designated solely for receiving calls—examples include bank customer service lines or government helplines. If a call originates from a number that is not intended for making outbound calls, the phone will immediately flag it as suspicious.

A key highlight of this feature is that it will benefit all Android users. While the "Verified Calls" feature was previously limited exclusively to the Google Phone app, this new verified feature will be integrated into the entire Android operating system. It will function across all major brands, including Samsung, Vivo, Realme, and OnePlus. This means that a significantly larger number of users will now have access to this enhanced security.

Your Phone Gets Even Smarter
You do not need to download or install this feature separately. It will be pre-installed on your device; for instance, banking apps can directly share their authentic contact numbers with the system. This will ensure even greater accuracy in caller identification. Furthermore, users will enjoy several additional benefits, such as:
Protection against fraudulent calls.
Security for personal finances and data.
Warnings issued *before* you answer a call.
