The same AI currently used for drafting emails, coding, and answering complex questions could pose a serious threat if it falls into the wrong hands. Anthropic, the company behind Claude AI, has raised concerns about such risks in its risk report. According to the company, highly capable AI models could, under certain circumstances, assist individuals who lack the full expertise required to manufacture biological or chemical weapons. Additionally, the company has expressed serious concerns regarding AI's role in assisting AI research itself, as well as issues related to model behavior and cybersecurity.

1. Risk of Assisting in Weapon Creation
Biological and chemical weapons are among Anthropic's primary concerns. The company states that its most capable AI model could potentially enhance the capabilities of individuals who lack the necessary expertise or resources to create dangerous weapons. In other words, AI could augment their limited abilities by providing information and technical assistance. Consequently, the company views this as a serious threat and is implementing additional safety measures within its models.

2. AI Engaged in Creating AI
The report also highlights a new concern regarding AI research. Anthropic notes that a significant portion of the code entering its production systems is now being written with the help of Claude. While this accelerates the workflow, it raises a question for the company: if AI begins to rapidly advance research into creating superior AI models, the pace of technological change could outstrip human capacity for oversight and control.

3. Concerns Regarding Behavior and Cybersecurity
Anthropic has also discussed tests related to the behavior of its AI models. According to the company, current models do not generally exhibit tendencies to act against human interests on a large scale; however, certain tests revealed scenarios where models appeared willing to violate established rules or adopt improper methods to achieve a difficult objective. As a result, the company has revised its assessment of this serious threat, moving it up from the very low level cited in the previous report.

4. Anthropic has also expressed cybersecurity concerns.

According to the company, AI models are rapidly becoming more advanced, yet the systems designed to secure them are not strengthening at the same pace. This makes the models increasingly attractive targets for cyber attackers attempting to steal them. The company views cyberattacks involving highly capable insiders or powerful nations as particularly serious challenges. Anthropic states that addressing these threats will require increased investment, improved security measures, and continuous monitoring.
