Jio has launched JioShield, which offers features like location tracking, SOS alerts, screen time management, and app/contact controls to ensure the safety of family members—both offline and online.

With JioShield, parents can monitor their child's location and receive critical safety alerts, including notifications when the phone's battery is running low. For children, parents can also regulate which apps and contacts are used and limit the time spent on the screen.

In essence, this allows for monitoring and controlling their online activity. The same service can also be used to stay connected with elderly parents and assist them whenever necessary.

Setting it up on mobile phones is simple: the 'JioThings' app needs to be installed on the parent's phone, while the 'JioShield' app is installed on the child's or elderly family member's phone. Once the apps are linked, parents can manage features like location tracking, screen time, and app/contact permissions directly from their own phones.

What is the cost?
JioShield is priced at ₹1,000 annually, averaging out to approximately ₹83 per month; a one-time payment of ₹1,000 is required. As part of Jio's 10th-anniversary offer, customers will receive Jio recharge vouchers worth a total of ₹1,000. Based on this, the company describes the service as effectively free. Additionally, the package includes a 12-month subscription to Canva Pro (valued at ₹4,000) and a 28-day Unlimited 5G upgrade.

The ₹1,000 worth of recharge vouchers will be issued in ten installments of ₹100 each, redeemable against 'Unlimited 5G' plan recharges of ₹399 or higher. The offer has been available since September 26. The child's or elderly person's phone must run Android 10 or a later version and have an active Jio number. JioThings for parents is currently available on Android, while it will be available on iOS starting October 1st.
