In 2025, Mark Zuckerberg spent billions of dollars to establish Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL). After spending over $14 billion to acquire Scale AI, Meta tapped Alexandr Wang to lead MSL. Now, MSL has released its first AI model, named Muse Spark. The company claims that this is the most advanced AI model Meta has ever created. Additionally, a new logo for Meta AI has been unveiled.

According to Alexandr Wang, Muse Spark was built entirely from scratch in just nine months. This new model will now power Meta AI across various platforms such as Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Muse Spark is likely the same model that was being tested by MSL under the codename "Avocado."

What is Meta Muse Spark?
Muse Spark is part of Meta's new "Muse" family of AI models, which is set to replace its older "Llama" models. Spark is not Meta's flagship model; rather, it is a smaller-scale model. In a blog post, the company stated: "This initial model is designed to be compact and fast, yet it is capable of understanding and solving complex questions related to science, mathematics, and health."

Meta asserts that Muse Spark can rival models such as Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.6 and OpenAI's GPT 5.4 on certain benchmarks. These benchmarks include multimodal reasoning, health applications, and agentic AI.

Alexandr Wang explained that Muse Spark's "contemplating mode" (reasoning mechanism) can manage multiple agents simultaneously, working in parallel to handle complex tasks. He further added, "In our tests, we found that it is capable of competing with other highly advanced reasoning models, such as Gemini Deep Think and GPT Pro."

What can Muse Spark do?
Wang explained that Muse Spark is capable of understanding the world around you. This AI can solve complex problems related to science or mathematics and can even provide you with information derived from your conversations on Meta's apps. He claimed that this AI is "built for the 3 billion people who are already using Meta apps every day."

Muse Spark will power an updated version of Meta AI, which is available on the Meta AI app and website. Plans are underway to expand its reach to Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and even Meta's smart glasses. It also features a new shopping mode that offers suggestions tailored to creators and brands.

Muse Spark Is Not Open Source
In the case of the Llama models, Meta's strategy was to keep them open source—meaning the code for the models was available to the general public. However, Muse Spark is closed source. Nevertheless, the company states that it "hopes to open-source future versions of the model."

Currently, Muse Spark is available as a private API preview for select partners. Alexandr further added that this was merely the first step. He explained, "Work is already underway on even larger models, and the infrastructure is being scaled up accordingly."
