SIM card fraud cases have risen sharply in the past few years, with scammers stealing and misusing your information. Sometimes, someone may be using your UID number without you even realizing it. Keeping this in mind, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) offers a tool on the Sanchar Saathi portal, under the TAFCOP system, that allows users to find out how many SIM cards are registered in their name.

It's worth noting that the Indian government has made it mandatory to link mobile numbers with Aadhaar cards. A maximum of nine active SIM cards can be registered with a single Aadhaar number nationwide, while the limit is six in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and the northeastern states. Let's explore how you can check how many SIM cards are linked to your Aadhaar card.

Check the number of SIM cards linked to your Aadhaar card:

Go to the Sanchar Saathi portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in).
Go to the 'Citizen Centric Services' section on the homepage and click on 'Know Your Mobile Connections'.
Now enter your 10-digit mobile number and captcha code.
An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. Enter it.
After this, a list of all mobile numbers registered with your Aadhaar or other ID document will appear.

What to do if you find a suspicious or unknown number?

If you see a mobile number that doesn't belong to you, you can report it as 'Not My Number' so that it can be deactivated. Alternatively, you can select the 'Not Required' option for an old or inactive SIM. After the process is completed, the reported numbers will automatically be deactivated. Users with more than 9 SIM cards registered in their name will also receive an SMS notification from the government.
