In today's times, your CIBIL score has emerged as the primary yardstick of your financial health. If you ever apply for services such as loans, credit cards, or 'Pay Later' options, banks invariably look at your score first. This three-digit number serves as a reflection of your credit history and payment habits.

**What is a CIBIL Score?**
A CIBIL score is a three-digit number ranging from 300 to 900, generated by TransUnion CIBIL. This score is determined by whether or not you have repaid your loan EMIs and credit card bills on time.
The higher your score, the easier it becomes to secure a loan or credit card at a lower interest rate. Generally, a score above 750 is considered good, as it signifies a healthy credit history.

**How to Check Your CIBIL Score via the Website?**
You can check your score for free once a year by visiting the official TransUnion CIBIL website. To do this, you must click on the "Get Free CIBIL Score & Report" option located on the website's homepage.
Subsequently, you will need to create an account by providing details such as your name, date of birth, address, and PAN number. Once the verification process—conducted via your mobile number or email—is complete, your CIBIL score and the full report will be displayed on your screen.

**Check Your Score for Free Every Month Using the BHIM App**
You can now check your CIBIL score on a monthly basis as well; this can be done using the BHIM app.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced this feature through the BHIM app, in collaboration with TransUnion CIBIL.
First, update or download the BHIM app and log in using your mobile number and UPI PIN. Next, navigate to the 'Financial Services' section and select the 'Free CIBIL Score' option.
Here, you will be required to fill in basic details such as your PAN number and name. As soon as the process is completed, your CIBIL score and the complete credit report will appear within the app.

Easy Ways to Improve and Maintain Your CIBIL Score
If your CIBIL score is below 750, it indicates that you have, at some point, delayed an EMI or credit card payment. Furthermore, applying for loans repeatedly also damages your score.
To maintain a healthy score, it is essential that you always pay your EMIs and bills on time. Additionally, avoid utilizing more than 30% of your credit card limit. You should also refrain from applying for new loans frequently.
