Meta Platforms announced last Thursday the launch of the Meta AI Support Assistant on Facebook and Instagram. This move is part of the Menlo Park-based tech giant's ambition to introduce tools for support and content enforcement across its applications. It is claimed that this new Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant is capable of answering questions and even taking actions on behalf of the user.

In a blog post, Meta stated that it is currently rolling out its AI support assistant globally for Facebook and Instagram across Android, iOS, and desktop-based Help Centers. It offers round-the-clock assistance for a wide range of account-related issues and claims to provide responses in less than five seconds.

As outlined by Meta, the Meta AI Support Assistant can provide information, answer queries, and perform tasks on behalf of the user. These capabilities include reporting scams or accounts engaging in identity impersonation; helping users understand why their content was removed and assisting them in appealing such removals; managing user privacy settings; changing passwords; and editing user profiles.

These features are currently limited to Facebook, but they will be made available on Instagram in the future. The company noted that this assistant is integrated directly into its apps, making it even easier for Meta to provide support to its users. It is available in all languages supported by Facebook and Instagram.

Furthermore, Meta is experimenting with more advanced AI systems to enhance content moderation on its platforms. It is claimed that these systems will be more effective in identifying content violations—such as scams, fraud, impersonation, and harmful content—thereby reducing the likelihood of false positives during this process.

The company has asserted that initial testing has yielded very promising results. The new AI systems are successfully detecting and preventing approximately 5,000 attempted scams every day. In comparison, these efforts previously went unnoticed. Furthermore, it has been claimed that, with the aid of these systems, complaints regarding the impersonation of celebrities have declined by over 80 percent; additionally, these systems have been able to identify twice the volume of rule-violating adult content compared to human review teams.
