Some users of Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL across the country are currently receiving special text messages from the number 127000. These SMS messages are being sent by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as part of a joint test project. This is being called the Digital Consent Acquisition (DCA) pilot project. Through the DCA project, all user permissions for promotional messages (including those from banks) are being migrated to a digital system. This will make it easier for users to control these messages.

What is the purpose of this project?
TRAI's existing regulations (2018 regulations) allow users to block or approve any promotional calls or messages. Organizations sending messages are required to maintain a digital consent registry of user permissions. However, many users had permitted promotional messages (such as those from their bank) on paper forms. If you later want to stop these messages, canceling that paper permission is very difficult.

To fix this problem, TRAI and RBI are testing this project. In this project, banks are uploading users' old paper-based permissions to a special online portal. With the help of this portal, users will be able to easily cancel their old permissions.

What is in the message from 127000?
The SMS from this special number contains a standard alert message. It also includes a secure link. By clicking on this link, users are taken directly to the consent management page. On this official website, any user can check all the old permissions given to the bank using their mobile number. They can also modify, cancel, or continue these permissions.

There is no need to worry about the messages from the number 127000. By clicking on the link in this SMS, you can control the promotional messages you receive from your bank. Since this is a trial project by the RBI and TRAI, these messages may have only been sent to a limited number of users. This test includes SBI, PNB, Axis Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, and Punjab & Sind Bank.
