Tech: Android users are in for a treat, Google is bringing a feature similar to iPhone's NameDrop..
Both Android and iOS operating systems offer users different experiences in terms of features, customization, and controls. Google and Apple often offer similar features. Recently, we've seen the latest iOS versions incorporate many Android-like features, but now Google is preparing to launch an Apple-like Contact Poster feature for Android users.
How does this feature work?
According to a report by Android Authority, Google is currently working on an Apple-like Contact Poster or NameDrop feature for Android. This feature, found on iPhones, is useful when users need to share someone's contact card. Contact cards contain the user's name and contact information. On iPhones, this feature works like AirDrop when two iPhones are placed near each other. This makes contact sharing quick and easy.
Now, Google has announced the launch of a similar feature, called Gesture Exchange. The code in this string also highlights ContactExchangeActivity and ndef, which likely points to an NFC data exchange format. This means that this feature will allow for quick sharing of contact information via NFC, similar to the iPhone.
Like Android's NameDrop feature, users can choose which personal information they want to share, such as photos, phone numbers, or email addresses. If they don't want to share any personal information, they can simply select the Receive Only option.
Regarding the receiver, this feature will ask the user to add the details as a new contact entry on the device. Similar to Google's Contact Poster feature, the company has not yet announced when this feature might be rolled out.
