Amidst rising cases of online fraud and scams, Truecaller has launched a new feature called 'Scam Checker'. The company states that this service will help users verify suspicious messages, links, or phone numbers before interacting with them. Truecaller introduced this service to consolidate its various scam detection tools into a single location.

With Scam Checker, users can verify suspicious web links, look up information on phone numbers, and view similar scams reported by other users. According to the company, this feature is an extension of Truecaller's existing call identification and spam protection capabilities.

How Truecaller Scam Checker Works

According to Truecaller, if a user receives a suspicious message or a request linked to potential fraud, they can use Scam Checker to investigate it. For instance, a user can check a link to determine if it is associated with suspicious or phishing activity.

Similarly, users can search for a phone number to see what information Truecaller's system and community signals provide about that number.
It also includes 'ScamFeed' reports, allowing users to search for scams reported by others. This helps in gathering more information if a report matching the specific message or fraudulent situation is found.

Checking Phone Numbers, Links, and the Narrative
Truecaller notes that three elements are often crucial in a suspected scam: the phone number, the link, and the story or context conveyed in the message. Scam Checker allows users to verify all three in one place. Users can also input their specific concerns or issues, and the service will display results related to the relevant links, phone numbers, and community reports. Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala stated that 'Scam Checker' combines the company's detection technology with community reports, enabling users to verify suspicious links, numbers, or stories.

The company plans to add further features to the service, such as the ability to identify a wider range of scams, deep analysis via screenshot uploads, and user authentication.
Currently, Scam Checker is being rolled out on the Android app, while its web version is available globally. Truecaller intends to expand the service to more markets in the future and eventually introduce support for iOS as well.
