Spotify India Update: Spotify Discontinues Cheapest Plan; Premium Subscription Now Available at This Price..
The audio streaming platform Spotify has implemented significant changes to its subscription plans in India. The company has removed its most affordable offering—the Spotify Premium Lite plan—from both its website and mobile app, leading to speculation that the plan has been discontinued. Additionally, the company has adjusted the pricing of its remaining Premium plans. Notably, while the cost of certain plans has decreased, there has been no reduction in the features or benefits they offer.
**Spotify Lite Plan Disappears Within Six Months**
Spotify launched the Premium Lite plan in India in November 2025. It was considered the company's most budget-friendly Premium option, priced at ₹139 per month. Under this plan, users enjoyed ad-free music streaming along with high-quality audio at bitrates of up to 160 kbps. However, this service was limited to a single user account. The company has now completely removed this plan from both its website and mobile application. Consequently, it is widely believed that Spotify has officially discontinued the service. As of now, the company has not clarified whether existing subscribers will be automatically migrated to a different plan.
**Spotify Premium Standard Now More Affordable**
Spotify has also made a major adjustment to the pricing of its Premium Standard plan. Previously available at ₹199 per month, the price has now been reduced to ₹139 per month. New users can avail of this plan for just ₹99 for the first three months. Interestingly, this new price point matches the previous cost of the Premium Lite plan. The Standard plan offers users ad-free streaming of both music and audiobooks. Furthermore, it supports audio quality of up to 320 kbps. This means users will now enjoy superior sound quality at a lower price point than before.
**Student Plan Also Becomes Cheaper; Features Remain Unchanged**
Spotify has also reduced the price of its Student plan. Previously priced at ₹99 per month, the cost has now been lowered to ₹69 per month. The company is extending this same introductory price to new users for the first two months of their subscription. However, despite the price reduction, no changes have been made to the plan's features. Student users will continue to enjoy ad-free music, audiobook access, and high-quality audio streaming at up to 320 kbps. Meanwhile, there have been no changes to the price or features of the company's most expensive Spotify Premium Platinum plan.
