Snapchat has rolled out a special feature. Users can now show their friends—in real-time—exactly which song they are currently listening to...

Snapchat has introduced a new feature called "Now Playing." This allows you to share the song you are currently listening to with your friends in real-time. To use this, you need to link your Spotify account to the app. Once linked, friends can see what music you are listening to on the Snap Map.

This feature has also been integrated into the "Spotlight" section, where short-form videos are viewed. Now, if you like a song in a video, you can save it directly to Spotify or visit the song's dedicated page to listen to it.

What measures has the company taken regarding privacy?

Users have full control over who can view their music activity.
The feature does not display your entire listening history or the last song you played.
If you do not open the app for 24 hours, music sharing pauses automatically and resumes only when you open the app again.
Additionally, you can choose to turn off sharing for 3 hours, 24 hours, or indefinitely.

Which other apps already offer this feature?

TikTok already allows users to share and save viral songs.
Instagram lets users indicate what they are listening to via the "Notes" feature.
Spotify has also launched a real-time music sharing feature on its platform, enabling friends to see each other's music preferences.

Why was this new feature launched?

According to Manny Adler, who oversees music-related features at Snapchat, music is a unique way for people to express themselves, and the experience is enhanced when shared with friends. The company noted that Snap Map is used by over 450 million people every month.

What is Snap Map?

Launched in 2017, Snap Map was initially designed to show the locations of friends and public Snaps from around the world; however, over time, features such as information on local places, activities, and now music discovery have been added. Currently, this feature is being rolled out in countries where both Spotify and Snapchat are available, while it is set to launch in Canada soon.
