In today's world, smartphones have become a necessity for everyone, and the market offers countless options ranging from affordable to expensive. However, lured by low prices, people often purchase smartphones without adequate information. A phone that appears cheap and attractive on the surface can later become a source of major trouble, as such devices could be stolen, counterfeit, or technically defective. Therefore, exercising a little caution when buying a mobile phone is crucial to avoid fraud and ensure worry-free usage.

The Rajasthan Police has raised awareness about the need to verify mobile phones before purchase to avoid buying stolen devices. While mobile phones have become an essential part of daily life in this digital age, the desire for cheap or second-hand phones often leads people to make purchases without proper checks—a decision that can lead to significant problems later on.

In a post on their X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Rajasthan Police outlined the key points to consider when buying a phone. First, dial *#06# to check the mobile's IMEI number. This is a unique identification number for every mobile phone that reveals its authenticity.

To find the IMEI number, dial *#06# on your mobile.
Type "KYM " in an SMS and send it to 14422.
If the status shows "Blacklisted," "Duplicate," or "Already in use," the phone could be stolen or illegal.

In such a situation, one should immediately be alert and inform the relevant authorities. Both buying and selling stolen mobile phones are criminal offenses. Therefore, to act as a responsible citizen and abide by the law, it is essential to thoroughly verify any second-hand mobile phone before purchasing it.
