Smart TV Guide: Planning to buy a smart TV? Don't ignore these points, or you'll regret it later..
Smart TVs are found in almost every household these days. Features ranging from online streaming to gaming and screen casting have made them more useful than ever before. However, buying a TV based solely on screen size or a low price tag isn't the best approach; one should consider specific key features to choose the right smart TV. If you are planning to buy a new smart TV, the following points will prove very useful.
1. Choosing the Right Screen Size
The first dilemma is often deciding how big the TV should be. You should choose a TV based on the room where it will be placed. A 32- to 43-inch TV is sufficient for a small bedroom, whereas a 55-inch or 65-inch TV offers a fantastic cinematic experience in a large living room.
2. Resolution: Full HD or 4K?
Nowadays, 4K resolution (Ultra HD) TVs are the best option. There is an abundance of 4K content available on platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube.
Consider Full HD (1080p) only if you are on a tight budget and opting for a 32- or 43-inch TV. For larger TVs, do not settle for anything less than 4K resolution.
3. Panel Technology: LED, QLED, or OLED?
LED: This is the most common and budget-friendly option. It offers good picture quality, though not exceptional.
QLED: This is an upgraded version of LED technology. Colors appear brighter and more vibrant. It is a good choice for mid-range to premium budgets.
OLED: This is the most premium and expensive technology. Each pixel generates its own light. If you desire perfect blacks and the best picture quality—and budget is not a concern—then choose an OLED TV without hesitation.
4. Choosing the Right Refresh Rate
A refresh rate of 60Hz is sufficient for general TV viewing and watching movies. However, if you want to use gaming consoles like the PlayStation (PS5) or Xbox on your TV, or enjoy watching action-packed sports, you should definitely buy a TV with a 120Hz refresh rate.
5. Connectivity and Essential Ports
Ensure your TV has at least 3 or 4 HDMI ports. This will allow you to connect devices like a set-top box, gaming console, and soundbar simultaneously.
Additionally, having at least 2 USB ports and support for dual-band Wi-Fi for high-speed internet is essential.
6. Don't Overlook Sound Quality
Modern TVs have become so slim that there is simply no room left to house large, powerful speakers. This is why the audio on even most high-end smart TVs isn't particularly impressive.
When buying a TV, check that the sound output is at least 20W or 30W.
If you desire a cinema-like audio experience, set aside some extra money for a good soundbar in addition to your TV budget.
