SIM Card Scam: How many SIM cards can you have on one ID? Find out, or you could end up in jail..
SIM Card Scam: In today's digital age, mobile phones and the internet have made our lives easier, but they have also significantly increased the risk of cybercrime and online fraud. Did you know that someone else could be using a SIM card registered in your name? If any illegal activity is carried out using these numbers, you could face legal trouble. Let's find out how you can check from the comfort of your home how many SIM cards are active under your name.
How to check active SIMs on your ID?
The government has launched a portal called TAF-COP for the security of its citizens. The process is very simple.
First, go to the government's official website (tafcop.dgtelecom.gov.in).
Enter your mobile number and fill in the captcha code displayed on the screen.
You will receive an OTP on your number; enter it on the website to verify.
Once the verification is successful, you will see a list of all the numbers registered under your ID.
What to do if you see an unknown number in the list?
If you see a number in the list that you don't recognize, there's no need to panic. You can report that number on the same portal. After filing the complaint, you will receive a reference number, which you can use to check the status of your complaint. The telecom department will then initiate the process to block that number.
How many SIM cards can one person have on one ID?
According to the rules, a person in India can have a maximum of 9 SIM cards on a single ID. However, in Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, and the northeastern states, this limit is only 6 SIM cards.
To protect yourself from cyber fraudsters, keep checking your ID details regularly. A little vigilance can save you from significant financial and legal losses. If you haven't checked yet, visit the government portal today and secure your digital identity.
