Several improvements have been made to PM-WANI Wi-Fi for the convenience of users; logging in will now be possible via QR code..
Free Public Wi-Fi: The government is taking significant steps to ensure that people across the entire country have access to internet facilities. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has announced several major changes to the PM-WANI—or Prime Minister Wi-Fi Access Network Interface—scheme. The objective of these changes is to make public Wi-Fi more affordable and easily accessible to everyone nationwide, enabling people to conveniently avail themselves of internet services. Let's take a closer look at these changes...
**Now Log In Using QR Codes**
Connecting to public Wi-Fi at public venues—such as railway stations and bus stands—typically involves following a lengthy procedure. However, with PM-WANI, you will now be able to connect effortlessly simply by scanning a QR code. Thanks to this QR login feature, users will also be able to easily connect their laptops and other devices to the PM-WANI Wi-Fi network. To do so, one simply needs to scan the QR code displayed on the login page using a smartphone, and the internet connection will be established. This will not only accelerate the login process but also enhance security compared to previous methods.
**15, 30, and 60-Minute Plans**
For the convenience of the public, the government has also introduced short-term plans for PM-WANI Wi-Fi. These "sachet-style" plans will come with validity periods of 15, 30, and 60 minutes. These options will make it much easier to access Wi-Fi at public locations such as railway stations and bus stands.
**Public Wi-Fi Network Names to Be Standardized**
Changes have also been implemented to protect the public from cyber fraud and various other types of scams. To safeguard users against fake networks, the naming conventions for all official hotspots will now be standardized. Moving forward, all official hotspots will mandatorily feature "PMWANI" branding in their network names. This will make it significantly easier for users to identify and distinguish safe, legitimate Wi-Fi networks.
