Scam Alert: No OTP, no approval—just a single click, and your wallet is emptied..
Cybersecurity measures are constantly tightening the noose on cybercrime. Yet, cybercriminals continue to devise new techniques to attack people, ensnaring them in traps and stealing their assets. One such case has recently come to light where crypto assets worth ₹10 lakh vanished from an investor's wallet in just two minutes. This occurred via a single verification link, without any OTP or approval message being sent.
The investor received a link that appeared to mimic the genuine wallet interface. Upon opening the link, they were prompted to enter their 12-word 'seed phrase.' As soon as the seed phrase was entered, the scammer gained full access to the wallet.
**Funds Transferred to Multiple Wallets**
Shortly thereafter, all the crypto funds were transferred to various other wallets. Throughout this process, neither an OTP nor any form of approval was requested from the investor. It is important to note that cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. This type of fraud is known as a "Crypto Wallet Drain Scam," where a fake website can empty your wallet.
**Gaining Wallet Control via the Seed Phrase**
Scammers send a fake alert link; clicking it redirects you to a fraudulent website. There, they prompt you to enter login details, thereby gaining access to your entire crypto wallet. Remember, the seed phrase grants complete control over your wallet and funds.
**Keep These Points in Mind**
No legitimate app will ever ask for your seed phrase.
Scammers create panic using security alerts, gain trust through fake websites, and pressure you into making hasty decisions with "Verify Now" prompts.
Stay vigilant and avoid clicking on unknown links.
Never share your seed phrase with anyone.
Use only official apps and websites.
Employ additional security measures for large holdings.
