Sanchar Saathi Portal: File a complaint here immediately if your mobile phone is stolen or lost..
If your smartphone has been dropped somewhere or stolen in a crowd, there is absolutely no need to sit around in despair. The Government of India's 'Sanchar Saathi' portal is proving to be a lifesaver for ordinary citizens. According to the latest data from the central government, over 1.4 million (14 lakh) lost or stolen mobile phones have been recovered and returned to their rightful owners with the help of this portal. Since its launch in May 2023, this digital platform has crossed the historic milestone of over 300 million (30 crore) visits.
According to the ministry, people can lodge complaints regarding suspicious calls, SMS, and WhatsApp messages on the Sanchar Saathi portal. Additionally, users can check details of mobile connections issued in their name, block lost or stolen phones, and verify the authenticity of a mobile phone before purchasing it. Moreover, every complaint lodged by citizens generates valuable intelligence for the Department of Telecommunications, banks, and law enforcement agencies.
**What to do immediately if your phone is stolen**
As soon as your phone is lost or stolen, after informing the police, visit the Sanchar Saathi portal (sancharsaathi.gov.in) directly. Entering the phone's IMEI number on the portal immediately blocks the handset across all telecom networks nationwide. Once blocked, the thief cannot use the device by inserting a different SIM card. The system instantly tracks the phone the moment any new activity occurs on it.
**3.785 million (37.85 lakh) mobiles traced**
So far, 6.096 million (60.96 lakh) lost or stolen phones have been blocked across the country via the Sanchar Saathi portal; of these, 3.785 million (37.85 lakh) mobiles were successfully traced, and over 1.4 million (14 lakh) handsets were recovered through the collaborative efforts of telecom companies and state police. The Ministry stated that information gathered from citizens' complaints also strengthens the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) system. This system assesses the risk associated with mobile numbers that may be linked to financial fraud.
