The story of Rolex begins in 1905 when Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis founded the company Wilsdorf & Davis in London. They manufactured wristwatches and sold them to jewelers. Jewelers would then stamp their names on the dials and sell them to customers.

At that time, wristwatches weren't used to tell the time because their accuracy wasn't as good as that of pocket watches. However, the problem with pocket watches was that they would get damaged if exposed to water or would stop working if you ventured to high altitudes. Despite these shortcomings, they were widely used because there was no other option for keeping time.

But then, Hans Wilsdorf realized that wristwatches were far better than pocket watches for keeping time, so why not improve their timekeeping? After gathering a wealth of knowledge about these watches, Alfred and Wilsdorf experimented extensively and created the world's most accurate wristwatch.

Although after making these wristwatches, they used to earn money by selling them to jewelers, they noticed that the demand for their watches was gradually increasing in the market, and people were liking their watches very much, so why not enter the market with their own brand name? With this thought in mind, they started making wristwatches under their own brand name. However, at that time, the company's name was Wills, Duff & Davis, which, if written on the dial, would have been too large, so they shortened their brand name and changed the company's name to Rolex in 1908.

Now, Rolex gradually began to gain a foothold in the market with its revolutionary product, and innovations were made to make it even better. In 1908, they opened their company's office in Geneva, Switzerland.

From there, he began managing his operations, but in 1919, he had to close his London company because the government had increased taxes so much that the profit margin there was almost nonexistent. However, the company's location in Switzerland also proved to be very helpful in increasing its brand value, as at that time, Swiss-made watches were known for their most accurate timekeeping and were in high demand worldwide.

So, when people saw "Swiss-made" on Rolex watches, they bought them without much thought, and the company also made a substantial profit. Rolex's goal was not only to maintain time accuracy, but also to create a watch that would never be damaged by external factors like water, dust, or other environmental factors. Therefore, after much hard work and experimentation, in 1926, they created the world's first waterproof watch.

But this could only be successful if more and more people became aware of it. Now, even if an advertisement was placed in a newspaper or magazine, how would people believe that this watch was truly water or dust-proof? Understanding this, Hans Wells-Durf resorted to event marketing and gave it to athletes to wear at various sporting events. Such events brought great success to the company, and Rolex quickly succeeded in developing a unique brand image for itself.
