Ration Card KYC: In addition to subsidized food grains, the government is now planning to provide kerosene to ration card holders as well. In light of the LPG shortage in the country—attributed to the conflict between the US and Iran—the government is set to resume the supply of kerosene. To avail of subsidized rations, it is mandatory to complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) verification for your ration card. Failure to do so will render the card inactive.

If you have not yet completed the e-KYC for your ration card, or if you have not collected your rations for an extended period, your card may be suspended or permanently deactivated. Once a card is deactivated, you will no longer be able to avail of any essential benefits provided by the government, such as food grains or kerosene.

The good news is that the solution to this problem is remarkably simple; you do not need to make repeated visits to government offices or stand in long queues to resolve it. You can check the status of your ration card right from the comfort of your home using the Central Government's official 'UMANG' app. In other words, you can easily verify whether your ration card is currently active or not.

To initiate the process of reactivating your ration card, you must first download the UMANG app on your mobile phone. After installing the app, register using your mobile number and complete the login process by setting a strong MPIN. Once you access the app's dashboard, every detail—major or minor—related to your ration card will be displayed before you.

To check the status of your card, simply type 'Mera Ration' or 'PDS' into the app's search bar after logging in, and select your respective state from the available options. Upon entering your ration card number and clicking on 'View Ration Card Details,' a comprehensive overview of your card's status will appear on your screen. You will then be able to determine whether your card is currently active or if it has been deactivated. If your ration card appears inactive, there is no need to panic, as you can rectify this immediately by navigating to the 'Update Member Details' or 'e-KYC' option. Type ‘Department of Food and Public Distribution’ into the search bar.

Select your state and choose either the ‘View Ration Card Details’ or ‘e-KYC’ option. Enter your ration card number. Select the name of the member for whom the e-KYC is to be performed, and enter their Aadhaar number. You will receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar; enter this OTP. Click on ‘Submit’. Once the process is complete, you will receive a confirmation message indicating that your e-KYC was successful.

Having a completed KYC and an active status for your ration card is essential for availing rations from a ration depot. Due to a minor technical oversight or a failure to complete KYC, you could be deprived of benefits such as subsidized food grains or kerosene distribution. Therefore, use the UMANG app on your mobile phone today and take just two minutes to update your details.
