RailMadad App: Has someone else occupied your confirmed seat? File a complaint using these methods to get immediate assistance..
It can be extremely frustrating if someone occupies your confirmed seat during a train journey and refuses to vacate it—especially when the train is crowded and the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) is nowhere to be found.
However, you no longer need to argue or get stressed. By making smart use of your smartphone, you can get your seat vacated within minutes. Indian Railways offers this digital facility to passengers via SMS, phone calls, and an app. Here are three easy ways to do it:
1. Use the RailMadad App
If you have a smartphone and internet access, the Railways' RailMadad app is the most effective option.
Open the app on your phone and tap on the 'Train Complaint' option on the home screen.
Enter your 10-digit PNR number.
Select 'In-Coach Complaints' as the complaint type.
Next, select 'Seat Occupied by an Unauthorized Person' from the sub-category options.
Clearly describe the issue in the provided box and click the 'Submit' button.
2. The SMS Method (No Internet Required)
If your phone does not have internet access, you can still register your complaint via a simple SMS:
Go to your phone's messaging app.
Type the message: COMPLAINT
Example: COMPLAINT 1234567890 My confirmed seat number 24 in coach S3 is occupied by someone else.
Send this message to the number 139.
3. Call 139
If you prefer not to type, you can speak directly to the Railways' helpline.
Call 139 from your phone.
Provide the customer care executive with your PNR number, train number, and specific coach/seat details.
Register your complaint. (Keep your ticket details handy before calling to save time). What action follows the filing of a complaint?
Once the complaint is submitted, you will receive a complaint number (reference number) on your phone.
Your complaint will be instantly transmitted digitally to the tablet of the TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) on board the train.
If the matter is serious, the RPF or GRP (Railway Police) at the next station will also be alerted.
Shortly thereafter, the TTE or security personnel will arrive at your seat, remove the unauthorized occupant, and hand the seat over to you.
Finally, the Railways will seek your feedback, and the complaint will be closed only after you are satisfied.
