In the latest case, a shocking incident has emerged from Bengaluru, where a 42-year-old man was duped of over ₹1.29 crore by a woman he met on the dating app Quack Quack and her accomplices. The matter has now been reported to the Cyber Crime Police, and an investigation is underway.
How did the fraud begin?
According to the FIR, complainant Jagdish C met a woman and other suspects on the QuackQuack app. As the conversation progressed, the accused gained the trust.
He was gradually persuaded to invest in a website that claimed to offer high returns on the international stock market. The woman, identified as Meghna Reddy, emotionally influenced the victim by claiming she wanted to build an old-age home in his father's name. Believing this story, Jagdish began making transactions one after another.
₹1.29 crore siphoned off in 2 days
According to the police report, the victim transferred ₹1,29,33,253 through multiple RTGS and NEFT transactions between November 5th and 6th to the accounts provided by the fraudsters. After receiving neither a refund nor a refund, he realized he had been duped. He immediately filed a complaint with the North Central Crime Police.
Police Registered a Case
The police have registered a case based on Jagdish's complaint. The investigation is being conducted under relevant sections of the IT Act 2000 and the Indian Penal Code 2023.
