Putting an end to Ola and Uber's arbitrary practices! Bharat Taxi will put a stop to the 'game' of surge pricing..
A new cooperative alternative in the form of an app-based taxi service will soon be available in the country. The pilot project of Bharat Taxi, launched by the Central Ministry of Cooperation, is nearing completion. Ashok Thakur, a director at NAFED, which falls under the Ministry of Cooperation, told TV9 Bharatvarsh in an exclusive interview that more than 110,000 people in Delhi-NCR have already joined this project. He said that the program is scheduled for a full launch in major cities across the country around January 15th.
Shiv Kumar, a Bharat Taxi driver standing on Raisina Road in Delhi, said that he previously drove for Ola and Uber and joined this app just a week ago. Another taxi driver, Ashok Yadav, said that the government's effort is to keep Indian money within India, which is why he has joined this app.
What is Bharat Taxi App?
It is a mobile-based cab booking platform designed keeping in mind the needs of the people. Through this app, people will be able to book autos, cars, and bike taxis. This service is being launched under Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, which is considered the country's first National Mobility Cooperative. Its operation is entirely based on a driver-friendly model.
The government will also provide loans.
Ashok Thakur said that if you register yourself with this app, the government will also provide you with the facility to buy a taxi in the future. This will allow you to become a taxi owner yourself. This will also create large-scale employment opportunities in the country.
Ashok Thakur said that the biggest feature of Bharat Taxi is that there will be no surge pricing. This means that whether it's raining, peak time, or traffic, the fare will not be increased arbitrarily. The fare will be predetermined and transparent, so passengers will know in advance how much they have to pay.
Special emphasis on safety and technology: Bharat Taxi has also partnered with the Delhi Police for the safety of passengers and drivers. Work is also being done with the local Gujarat Police in Gujarat for this purpose. The app will offer features such as real-time tracking, verified driver onboarding, multilingual support, and 24x7 customer care. Additionally, the app will be integrated with the metro network, allowing users to easily plan multimodal journeys.
Auto rickshaws, cars, and bikes will all be available on a single platform: the Bharat Taxi app will offer options for auto rickshaws, cars, and bike taxis. This means one platform will suffice for all travel needs, from short distances to long journeys.
Where to find the app and when will bookings begin?
The Bharat Taxi App is available on the Google Play Store for trial and feedback. An iOS version will be launched soon. From January 1, 2026, people in Delhi will be able to book cabs through this app. After Delhi, the service will be launched in Rajkot, Gujarat, with plans for further expansion to other cities across the country.
When and where will it launch?
A pilot phase was launched in Delhi in November with 650 vehicles and their owner-drivers. Now, more than one lakh people have joined the platform. The service is planned to launch in 20 cities within a year, including Pune, Mumbai, Lucknow, Bhopal, and Jaipur. Launching the service in several metropolitan areas by March 2026 is also a target. The platform will be operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, which was established in June 2025 with an initial capital of ₹300 crore.
