Maintaining your vehicle's PUC (Pollution Under Control) validity has become more crucial than ever, especially in Delhi-NCR, where regulations are being strictly enforced due to rising pollution levels. Different stages of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) are being implemented as needed. According to some reports, vehicles without a valid PUC are even being denied fuel at petrol pumps.

With authorities increasingly relying on digital records to verify compliance, knowing how to check your PUC status online can help you avoid fines and hassles during your daily commute.

What is a PUC?
PUC, which stands for Pollution Under Control, is a mandatory emission certificate issued after a vehicle undergoes an emission test at an authorized center. It confirms that the vehicle's exhaust emissions are within authorized limits.

For most private vehicles, a PUC certificate is typically valid for one year, although the validity may vary depending on the vehicle's age and fuel type. The certificate includes information such as the vehicle registration number, emission readings, date of issue, and expiry date.

Why is a valid PUC necessary?
A valid PUC is legally required to drive on Indian roads. Driving a vehicle with an expired or missing certificate can result in fines under the Motor Vehicles Act and, in some cases, may even invalidate insurance claims. In pollution-sensitive areas like Delhi-NCR, regulations are strictly enforced during smog episodes, with authorities conducting on-the-spot checks and, in some instances, restricting fuel access for non-compliant vehicles. An up-to-date PUC also ensures that your vehicle is not contributing excessively to air pollution.

How to check PUC validity status?
Through the Parivahan PUCC portal
This is the direct official option to view your certificate details online. The Parivahan PUCC portal has a dedicated 'PUC Certificate' page where you can retrieve your PUC details using your vehicle information.

First, open the Parivahan PUC Certificate page.
Enter your vehicle registration number. Enter the last 5 characters of the chassis number and fill in the captcha.
Click on ***PUC Details*** to view the validity and related certificate information.

Via the mParivahan app
Open the mParivahan app on your Android or iOS device and sign in using your credentials.
If your vehicle is not already listed, add it using the registration number.
On the home page, tap on the option that says Vehicle and select PUCC from the dropdown menu.
Search for the vehicle number, open the vehicle profile, and check the PUCC/PUC section to view the validity details.
