Preparing to prevent fraud! Advanced version of NMMS app came to stop rigging in 'VB-Ji Ram Ji'..
Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan has introduced an advanced version of the National Mobile Monitoring System (NMMS) app, designed to curb fraudulent attendance under the ‘VB-G Ram Ji’ (MGNREGA) scheme. This updated version features enhanced security protocols and includes an offline mode for recording attendance in areas with poor network connectivity. Chouhan emphasized that the government’s priority is to provide employment to rural workers, safeguard their wages, and ensure that public funds are utilized transparently and for their intended purposes. He noted that while technology should strengthen accountability, genuine workers must not be deprived of their entitlements due to network or technical issues.
Who developed this app?
Developed with technical support from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and other agencies, this advanced app incorporates device-level security checks, AI-based facial verification, liveness detection, and safeguards against the creation of counterfeit or tampered versions of the app. Chouhan explained that strengthening the verification system had become essential in light of complaints regarding the recording of fake attendance and the claiming of wages in the names of other individuals.
Alternative arrangements available
In the absence of network connectivity, attendance can be recorded offline at work sites. Once the network is restored—even after the muster roll has been closed—these entries can be uploaded. Alternative arrangements are also available for elderly workers, persons with disabilities, and those facing technical difficulties with mobile devices. Chouhan stated that while work will be provided to those who need it, corruption and irregularities will not be tolerated. He further mentioned that 109.97 million (10.997 crore) ‘Kisan IDs’ (farmer IDs) have been generated across the country, bringing the nation within just 30,000 IDs of its target to issue 110 million (11 crore) such IDs by December 2027.
