Prepaid Meter: How to check the remaining balance on a prepaid meter? Find out the easiest way..
Following the switch from prepaid to postpaid smart electricity meters in Uttar Pradesh, many consumers are wondering what happened to the remaining balance on their prepaid meters. Since June 2026, UPPCL has been sending postpaid bills via the app, SMS, and WhatsApp, yet many users have not received information regarding their previous balance.
If you had a remaining prepaid balance on your smart meter, there is no need to worry. UPPCL has provided several methods to check the details of your remaining balance.
How to check the old balance on the UPPCL app?
If you already have the UPPCL app installed on your phone, log in using your electricity connection details. On the home screen, alongside your bill details, you will see the balance that remained on your prepaid meter.
This remaining amount will be adjusted against future electricity bills. This means the bill amount will be reduced by the value of your previous balance; therefore, be sure to check your bill carefully once you receive it.
Get information via the helpline number
Alternatively, if you do not wish to use the UPPCL app, you can obtain details about your remaining balance by calling the helpline number, 1912. During the call, a customer service representative will ask for your Customer ID.
After verification, they will inform you of the balance remaining on your prepaid meter and explain how it will be adjusted against the postpaid bill. You might also be asked for details regarding your last recharge; this information can easily be found in the 'Recharge History' section of the UPPCL app.
Seek information or lodge a complaint via email
Furthermore, if you are unable to obtain information through the app or helpline, you can request details about your remaining balance by emailing the relevant DISCOM (Distribution Company). Ensure you include your Customer ID, a screenshot of the last recharge, the transaction ID, and other necessary details in the email. The electricity distribution company typically sends a written response within one to two working days.
