Nowadays, with the increasing cases of online fraud, people are becoming apprehensive about making online payments. If this is your situation, PhonePe has introduced a special feature, PhonePe Protect. You can consider it a security shield for your money in the digital world. This feature will help you determine if the number you're sending money to is suspicious. PhonePe also showcased this feature at the India Mobile Congress. Now, if you make a payment to a number with a history of fraud, you'll see a warning. This aims to ensure you don't accidentally send money to a fraudster and ensure your digital transaction remains 100% secure.

How does PhonePe Protect work?
PhonePe will use data from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the Government of India for this feature. DoT recently launched a new tool called the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI). This feature tracks mobile numbers that are linked to financial fraud.

Warning messages will appear.
If you make a payment on PhonePe to a number marked as "Very High Risk" in government records, PhonePe will automatically block the payment and display the reason for the transaction. If the number being paid is listed as "Medium Risk," the app will alert you with a message. You can then decide whether to make the payment.

Fraud Prevention
The PhonePe Protect feature will significantly reduce the types of online fraud currently occurring. There have been numerous cases where people have fallen prey to online fraudsters and sent money via UPI to suspicious numbers. This feature, when users receive a pre-alert regarding suspicious numbers, will help them avoid sending money to anyone. This feature can also be called the watchman of your online payments.
