Phone Charging: Don't charge your phone to 100%, experts explain the reason..

Many people have a habit of fully charging their phones. They don't remove the charger until the battery is 100% charged. Some even leave their phones charging at night so that they can be 100% charged in the morning. But this habit is not good for your battery. Experts say that repeatedly fully charging your phone can shorten battery life. If you also have the habit of fully charging your phone to 100%, you should stop this habit, as it is deteriorating your device's battery.
Charging to 100% Damages Battery
HuffPost reports that, according to Chao-Yang Wang, director of the Electrochemical Engine Center at Penn State University, charging your phone to 100% every time will rapidly reduce battery life. This is because a fully charged battery is subjected to higher voltage, which causes chemical changes in the battery. Dibakar Dutta, a professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, says that these changes weaken the battery over time. If you charge your phone to 90%, the battery can last 10-15% longer. Charging your battery to 100% causes gradual damage, but the difference is noticeable over time.
Keep the battery between 20% and 80%
Experts say it's best to always keep your phone's battery between 20% and 80%. According to Professor Dutta, the battery should not be discharged to 0% while in use. This depletes the battery's ability to hold a charge. Only charge your phone to 100% if you have to go on a long trip or if it's absolutely necessary. However, charging it to 85-90% daily will maintain battery life and keep it in good condition for a longer period of time.
Keep the battery at normal temperatures.
According to Chao-Yang Wang, the battery should be protected from extreme cold or extreme heat. Extreme heat or cold can cause even more damage to the battery than charging it 100%. Most smartphones can control charging based on temperature. If your phone displays a 'Too Hot to Charge' notification, you should pay attention to your battery usage.
Should you use a fast charger or not?
Using a fast charger seems convenient because it charges the phone quickly. However, Professor Dutta says that fast charging generates heat in the battery, which can damage it. Excessive heat reduces battery life and can sometimes be dangerous. In some cases, overheating has even led to phone fires.
