OpenAI: ChatGPT's parent company leases 50-seater office in Delhi, India becomes second largest user base..
Artificial intelligence (AI) giant OpenAI has launched its presence in India. The company has leased a 50-seater office space in Delhi, according to a report in the Economic Times. OpenAI leased this space in partnership with workspace provider CorporatEdge. Interestingly, the company is currently focusing solely on Delhi and is not looking for locations in nearby cities like Noida or Gurugram.
OpenAI's Growing Presence in India
OpenAI announced plans to open its first office in India this year. According to the company, India has the second-highest number of ChatGPT users after the United States. Furthermore, India is one of the top five markets for OpenAI developers. India also accounts for the largest number of students using ChatGPT worldwide. According to reports, OpenAI is building a local team here, which will work closely with the government, businesses, and developers.
Additionally, the company has launched the ChatGPT Go Plan exclusively in India, which is free for the first 12 months. After that, users will have to pay ₹399 per month. This plan is designed for a large and price-sensitive market like India.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated in August that opening its first office in India and building a local team is an important step for OpenAI. He stated that they will make AI more accessible and tailored to Indian needs across the country.
ChatGPT's Growing Popularity in India
Sam Altman stated in a post on X that the pace of AI adoption in India has been impressive. The number of ChatGPT users in India has quadrupled in the past year. This is why the company is working on plans to further expand investments and partnerships in India.
