These models will be available to developers in the API by the end of this week. The Instant model will be called GPT-5.1-Chat-Latest, and the Thinking model will be called GPT-5.1. The old GPT-5 will only be available for paid users for three months before it's discontinued, but models like GPT-40 and GPT-4.1 will remain available forever.
GPT-5.1 Instant will now become the default model for free users. It will respond better than before. Even during testing, people were amazed at how witty and friendly the model had become. Thanks to the new adaptive reasoning, if the question is easy, the model answers quickly, and if it's difficult, the model will respond after a little thought. The Thinking model has also improved. While answers previously used complex words, it will now clearly explain the meaning in simple Hindi and English. The more complex the question, the more it will think, and not rush.

The default mode is better than before. The old Listener and Robots are now called Friendly and Efficient.
