Now Take Full Control of Your WhatsApp Storage! New “Manage Storage” Feature Lets You Clean Up Chat-Wise

WhatsApp is preparing to roll out a much-needed update that will give users complete control over their chat storage. The platform is testing a new “Manage Storage” feature that will allow users to view and manage storage usage for each individual chat. With this addition, users can easily identify large photos, videos, or documents shared in any conversation and delete them with just a few taps.

WhatsApp’s New “Manage Storage” Feature

According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has started testing this new feature in its latest beta version. Once rolled out, users will be able to access the Manage Storage option directly from the Chat Info screen of any conversation. This new section will display how much storage that particular chat is consuming and show all shared media files—photos, videos, and documents—in a clear, grid-style layout.

Users can also sort files by size or date using filters such as “Newest,” “Oldest,” or “Largest.” This will make it much easier to find and remove unnecessary files, freeing up valuable space on the device without affecting other chats.

How WhatsApp Storage Works Currently

At present, WhatsApp users can manage storage through the Settings → Storage and Data → Manage Storage path. This section shows total storage used by all chats and lets users delete large files in bulk. However, it does not specify how much space each individual chat is taking up.

While users can view shared media in each chat’s Media, Links, and Docs section, file sizes are not displayed. This makes it difficult to identify which specific chats are consuming the most space. The new feature aims to fix this problem by offering chat-specific storage insights for better management.

Why This Update Matters

For most users, WhatsApp is the go-to platform for personal and professional communication. Over time, large videos, forwarded media, and repeated document sharing can fill up the phone’s memory quickly. With the upcoming per-chat storage control, users will finally be able to decide what stays and what goes—without deleting important messages or entire chat histories.

This feature will be particularly useful for people who participate in large group chats, office discussions, or family groups that frequently exchange high-resolution media files. It not only improves storage management but also enhances the app’s overall performance and responsiveness.

Rollout Timeline and Availability

Although WhatsApp has not announced an official release date yet, the feature is reportedly in its advanced beta testing phase. That means a wider rollout could begin very soon, possibly within the next few updates for Android and iOS users.

Once officially introduced, the Manage Storage option will appear under each chat’s info page, making it a convenient one-stop solution to monitor and clear chat-specific media.

A Step Toward Smarter Data Management

With this upgrade, WhatsApp aims to simplify storage control while maintaining user convenience. It reflects the company’s growing focus on performance optimization, privacy, and device efficiency.

In an era where media sharing dominates online communication, this new feature ensures your WhatsApp stays light, organized, and clutter-free — all under your control.
