Employees no longer need to waste time on websites or make repeated visits to the office to check their Provident Fund (PF) account balance or view passbook details. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced new services for subscribers via WhatsApp. Through this facility, employees can access their PF balance, passbook details, and information regarding their last five transactions.

Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, launched this facility during the 74th Foundation Day celebrations of the EPFO. Additionally, the organization has initiated an automated settlement process for inactive PF accounts. Under this, for Aadhaar-verified inactive accounts with a balance of up to ₹1,000, eligible subscribers will not need to file a separate claim to withdraw their funds.

What PF-related services will be available on WhatsApp?
Through this new EPFO facility, subscribers can access essential information related to their PF accounts via the organization's verified WhatsApp service. Users can avail themselves of three specific services:

PF Balance: Employees can view the total amount deposited in their accounts.
Passbook Details: Users can access information contained in their account passbook.
Last Five Transactions: Users can view the five most recent transactions in their accounts.

Reduced Need to Visit EPFO Offices
This initiative aims to make EPFO services more easily accessible. Through a familiar mobile platform like WhatsApp, employees can obtain answers to common queries and gather necessary information regarding their PF accounts.

This is expected to reduce the need to visit an EPFO office for basic services. Notably, subscribers can view their balance, passbook, and transaction details directly on their mobile phones.

Automatic Settlement of Inactive PF Accounts
Alongside the WhatsApp service, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also launched an automated settlement facility for eligible inactive PF accounts. This initiative covers inactive PF accounts that have a balance of up to ₹1,000 and are verified via Aadhaar.

Under this process, eligible subscribers will not need to file a separate claim to withdraw their outstanding funds. Once the necessary identity and bank account verification is complete, the EPFO will automatically initiate the settlement process.

The objective of this initiative is to ensure that small, long-unclaimed PF amounts reach their rightful beneficiaries. According to the Ministry of Labour, approximately 100,000 accounts could benefit from this facility, with a total accumulated balance of around ₹5 crore.

How to check your PF balance on WhatsApp?
Using the EPFO’s WhatsApp service is quite simple; subscribers just need to follow a few easy steps.

Send 'Hi' on WhatsApp: Save the verified number to your phone, open a chat on WhatsApp, and send a message saying 'Hi' (or 'Hello').

Select your language: Once the chat begins, choose your preferred language.
Select the required service: You will see options on the screen such as PF balance, passbook, the last five transactions, and assistance related to PMVBRY. Choose the option you need.

Verify via OTP: Confirm your identity by entering the OTP (One-Time Password) sent to you to access your account information.
